OPEN SV East Bay Young Professionals launched its Founder Offsite Initiative this past weekend, a hands on programme where participants turned ideas into real AI products and pitched them directly to founders, engineers and industry professionals. The initiative was built around a broader philosophy that being a young professional is not defined by age but by the willingness to create opportunities rather than wait for them, a framing reflected in the mix of high school students, college students and working professionals who took part.
Among the participants, Arish, a high school student, built AutomateMe, while Ayaan, a college sophomore, developed TransferPilot AI. Abdullah, a college freshman, built a product called Scaffolding, rounding out the student led projects presented during the offsite. The range of educational stages represented among these three participants, from high school through the early years of college, points to a programme structured to be accessible to younger builders regardless of how far along they are in their formal education.
Working professionals Sufian and Burhan showcased an AI powered device designed to remotely monitor infants’ breathing, demonstrating a practical application of AI technology aimed at improving safety and providing peace of mind for families. This project stood apart from the student led builds by addressing a more mature, hardware integrated use case, reflecting the additional professional experience the two brought to the offsite compared to their student counterparts.
In total, the offsite produced four AI solutions built by three students and one professional team, giving the programme a tangible set of outputs beyond conceptual discussion or theoretical exercises. Presenting these projects directly to founders, engineers and industry professionals gave participants real world exposure to the kind of feedback and scrutiny they would encounter when pitching to investors or technical evaluators in a more formal startup context.
OPEN SV’s Founder Offsite Initiative adds to a broader pattern of programmes aimed at giving younger builders structured opportunities to gain hands on experience with AI development and product pitching, extending access to this kind of practical entrepreneurial exposure beyond traditional university or corporate internship pathways. The organisation expressed pride in what the participating founders and innovators accomplished over the course of the offsite, framing the event as a demonstration of what young builders can achieve when given a structured platform to act on their ideas.
