National Incubation Center Hyderabad hosted a session with Marvie Mussadiq built around a premise that shapes much of how the center approaches founder development, that entrepreneurship looks different for every founder, and so does the specific journey of building a startup. Rather than treating entrepreneurship as a single path with fixed milestones, the session took startups through the many different dimensions that journey can take, spanning traditional and innovation driven enterprises and the distinct stages of entrepreneurial career progression that founders move through as their ventures mature.
The conversation also turned toward something nearly every founder confronts at some point but rarely examines directly, the nature and tolerance of risk itself. Startups reflected on the difference between an entrepreneurial mindset and a job oriented one, a distinction that matters more than it might initially seem, since many founders carry instincts and decision-making habits shaped by prior employment that do not always translate well into the uncertainty and ambiguity inherent to building something from scratch. Making that distinction explicit gives founders a clearer lens for noticing when they are defaulting to more conservative, employee style thinking in situations that actually call for entrepreneurial judgment.
The session turned this reflection inward through the Are You an Entrepreneur self-assessment, giving founders a structured tool to examine their own mindset rather than relying on assumption or self-perception alone. Self-assessment exercises of this kind serve a purpose distinct from technical or business skill training, since they push founders to confront questions about temperament, risk appetite, and decision-making style that are harder to surface through conventional pitch feedback or mentorship conversations focused primarily on the business itself.
Organizers framed the session as an opportunity to look beyond the business and reflect on the founder behind it, their mindset, their choices, and the kind of entrepreneur they are becoming, treating personal development as inseparable from business development at this early stage. The session was supported by Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ignite National Technology Fund, PTCL, LMKT, and Tech Destination Pakistan, continuing NIC Hyderabad’s ongoing curriculum of sessions connecting founders with practitioners across business, technical, and personal development themes.
