National Incubation Center (NIC) Faisalabad hosted a Founder Institute session titled “Cofounder and Team,” focusing on one of the most important decisions entrepreneurs face while building a startup: choosing the right cofounder and developing an effective team. The session highlighted how early team decisions can significantly influence a startup’s long-term growth, culture, and ability to overcome challenges.
Building a startup involves more than developing a strong product or identifying the right market opportunity. Founders also need people who share their vision while bringing complementary skills and perspectives to the venture. While product strategies and market approaches can often be adjusted over time, choosing an unsuitable cofounder can create challenges that become increasingly difficult to resolve as the company grows. The session therefore encouraged founders to approach cofounder selection carefully rather than treating it as an informal or convenient decision.
The session featured Tanja Morsch, co-founder of WeekOne, and Zohaib Hasan Khan, former Chief Operating Officer of Taleemabad. Both speakers brought valuable but different perspectives to the discussion. Morsch shared insights from the experience of building a company as a cofounder, providing participants with a view of the earliest stages of startup team formation. Khan contributed his experience of operating within a scaled organization, helping founders understand how teams, responsibilities, and structures evolve as businesses move beyond their initial stages.
A major focus of the session was identifying the qualities founders should consider when selecting a cofounder. Rather than simply choosing someone with similar abilities, founders were encouraged to look for partners whose strengths complement their own. Complementary skill sets can allow founders to divide responsibilities effectively, address a wider range of business challenges, and reduce unnecessary duplication of effort. The discussion then moved from cofounder selection to broader team building. Participants explored how the decisions made by founders at the beginning of a venture can shape future hiring and team development. When founding partners bring different but compatible strengths, they can establish a stronger base for creating a balanced team. In contrast, excessive overlap between founders’ capabilities may leave important areas of the business without sufficient attention.
The session also positioned team building as a long-term process rather than a one-time hiring exercise. Establishing clear roles, complementary capabilities, and effective working relationships early can provide the organizational foundation a startup needs as it expands. These decisions become part of the infrastructure supporting future growth and can influence how effectively a company responds to new opportunities and challenges. The “Cofounder and Team” session was held on Thursday, 10 September 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM through Google Meet. It provided NIC Faisalabad’s incubated startups with practical guidance on building founding teams capable of supporting sustainable business growth.
The session was supported by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ignite National Technology Fund, Fauji Fertilizer Company, CyberVision International, and GroundUp. It also continued NIC Faisalabad’s collaboration with Founder Institute in delivering structured curriculum sessions designed to equip incubated startups with practical knowledge and skills for different stages of their entrepreneurial journey.
