BIC Peshawar Hosts SMEDA Session on Entrepreneurship Basics

Published on

The Business Incubation Center at the University of Peshawar, in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, hosted a session on Entrepreneurship and Startup Development on September 23, 2026, led by Rashid Aman, Regional Chief for SMEDA KP and Gilgit-Baltistan. Framing the session around the basic question of what entrepreneurship actually is and its core components reflects a deliberate return to foundational concepts, a choice that matters for a student audience where formal exposure to entrepreneurship as a structured discipline, rather than an informal aspiration, can vary significantly depending on prior coursework or family business background.

Bringing in SMEDA’s regional leadership directly rather than relying solely on internal BIC faculty gives students access to a government perspective on entrepreneurship, one shaped by SMEDA’s broader mandate supporting small and medium enterprises across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan specifically. That regional focus matters given how much SME support policy and infrastructure can vary across Pakistan’s provinces, and having a regional chief walk students through entrepreneurship fundamentals grounds the session in the specific economic context students in Peshawar are actually building within, rather than a generalized national framework.

Starting with a conceptual grounding in what entrepreneurship is and its components, before moving into more applied startup development training, gives BIC’s student audience a clearer foundation to build on as they progress through more advanced sessions later in their incubation journey. This kind of foundational session often gets skipped in incubation programming that assumes students already share a common understanding of entrepreneurship, when in practice that assumption can leave gaps that surface later during more complex sessions on business models or fundraising.

The session adds to BIC Peshawar’s ongoing collaboration with SMEDA, reflecting a broader pattern of Pakistani university incubation centers partnering directly with government enterprise development bodies to bring practical, policy-informed perspectives into student-facing programming. For BIC’s student community, direct engagement with SMEDA’s regional leadership offers a connection to the broader institutional infrastructure supporting small business development in the region, beyond what the university’s own incubation resources can provide independently.
