BOI Meets Sundar Green SEZ On Investment Facilitation Efforts

Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh has held that export led industrial growth holds the key to Pakistan’s economic future, terming Sundar Green Special Economic Zone a role model for other SEZs in the country and reiterating that the government remains committed to promoting investment and industrialisation through enabling policies and facilitation mechanisms. The remarks came during a meeting held at the Board of Investment headquarters, where the minister sat down with MNA Rana Muhammad Hayat and the management team of Sundar Green SEZ to discuss matters related to the zone’s continued development.

The Sundar Green SEZ delegation included Chief Executive Officer Azeem Iftikhar, Managing Director Muhammad Abid and Director Rana Faisal Hayat, while the meeting also brought together Secretary BOI Jamil Qureshi, Additional Secretary Zulfiqar Ali and other senior officials from the Board of Investment, according to a press release issued following the meeting. The minister extended a welcome to the visiting delegation and acknowledged their contribution to industrial development in Pakistan, while the delegation in turn thanked him for the meeting and recognised the Board of Investment’s continued role in facilitating investment initiatives across the country.

Discussions centred in detail on matters pertaining to Sundar Green SEZ, with both the minister and the secretary commending the management team’s work in developing what they described as a modern and environmentally sustainable industrial zone. The minister underlined the importance of industrialisation to Pakistan’s broader economic trajectory, maintaining that the country’s economic future is tied closely to export led growth, and pointed to China’s economic transformation as a model worth studying, while citing industrial ventures such as Challenge Fashion as examples of how manufacturing and exports can strengthen the national economy.

The minister noted that Special Economic Zones offer a range of incentives, including tax exemptions and simplified processes for doing business, positioning them as a key driver of economic growth going forward. He reiterated that the Board of Investment remains committed to facilitating investors at every stage of their engagement with the country, adding that challenges faced by businesses operating within these zones would be addressed promptly as they arise. Secretary BOI Jamil Qureshi assured the delegation of full institutional support, and the minister invited the Sundar Green SEZ team to put forward any recommendations or proposals that could help further improve the investment climate.

Both sides concluded the meeting in agreement that export oriented industrial growth represents the way forward for Pakistan’s sustainable economic development, with discussions ending on a shared resolve to strengthen collaboration between the Board of Investment and Special Economic Zone management teams and to promote SEZs more broadly as engines of economic progress across the country.
