EMRChains, a healthcare startup founded by Muzna Khan and incubated at National Incubation Center Islamabad, is building a patient centric platform that combines blockchain and artificial intelligence to address long standing inefficiencies in Pakistan’s healthcare data systems. The startup was built around the observation that healthcare records across the country remain fragmented, with hospitals and clinics often operating on disconnected systems that make it difficult to share patient information securely or efficiently between facilities.
Unlike conventional electronic medical record systems, which largely focus on digitising and storing patient documentation, EMRChains has positioned its platform as intelligent healthcare infrastructure that brings together artificial intelligence, automation, and patient engagement alongside record keeping. The company’s product, an AI layer named SANA AI, is designed to support patients directly while also reducing the operational burden placed on hospitals and clinics, with the broader aim of making healthcare systems more accessible and scalable rather than simply moving paper records into digital form.
The startup’s use of blockchain technology allows patient data to be validated and secured in a way that supports interoperability across different healthcare providers, an approach intended to reduce hospital readmissions, strengthen medical record security, and lower overall healthcare costs by creating a more connected data ecosystem centred on patient information. This focus on interoperability addresses a gap that has persisted across Pakistan’s healthcare sector, where patient records often remain siloed within individual hospitals rather than following patients as they move between different care providers.
EMRChains’ development has taken place through National Incubation Center Islamabad, with support also drawn from IRADA Pakistan as the startup worked to refine its product and expand its network. The company’s progress reached an international audience earlier this year when it was selected among the top fifty teams globally at Harvard University’s HSIL Health Systems Innovation Lab Hackathon, advancing from more than one thousand eight hundred applications worldwide after completing a bootcamp session at Harvard, a milestone that added visibility to the startup’s work beyond Pakistan.
Muzna Khan, who leads EMRChains as Founder and Chief Executive, has continued to describe the company’s mission as one centred on empowering patients and improving healthcare accessibility through technology, with the startup’s broader ambition being to take a Pakistan built healthcare solution to international markets. The announcement was shared alongside acknowledgements of Ministry Of IT and Telecommunication, Tech Destination Pakistan, and Ignite National Technology Fund, reflecting the continued institutional support tied to EMRChains’ growth as it works to build a more connected healthcare data infrastructure both within Pakistan and beyond.
