GCBC Opens Applications for 2026 Climate Finance Accelerator Programme

Published on

The Global Capacity Building Coalition has opened applications for its 2026 GCBC Accelerator, inviting organisations that provide capacity building support for country platform development and implementation across emerging markets and developing economies to apply. The programme is aimed specifically at organisations working to strengthen the institutional capacity that governments, financial institutions, and project developers need in order to design and deliver country platforms, a category of work that sits somewhat behind the scenes of climate and development finance but plays a foundational role in determining whether larger investment and policy frameworks can actually be implemented effectively on the ground.

Country platforms themselves have become an increasingly common mechanism through which developing economies coordinate climate and development finance across multiple stakeholders, including governments, multilateral institutions, and private sector investors, and the ability to design and deliver these platforms effectively often depends on capacity that many organisations working in this space do not yet have in-house. By focusing its accelerator specifically on organisations that provide this kind of capacity building support, GCBC is targeting a structural gap in the broader development finance ecosystem, one that sits upstream of individual climate projects or investments but shapes how well those downstream efforts are eventually able to function.

Applications for the 2026 GCBC Accelerator will remain open until August 15, 2026, giving interested organisations a reasonably defined window to prepare and submit their applications. To help applicants understand the programme in greater depth, GCBC is hosting two virtual information sessions covering the accelerator’s structure, eligibility criteria, and application process. The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 9 to 10 in the morning Eastern Daylight Time, with registration available at https://lnkd.in/eG2eVJWW, while the second session will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 9 to 10 in the morning Singapore and Hong Kong time, with registration available at https://lnkd.in/eZ3f5svy.

Scheduling the two sessions across significantly different time zones reflects an effort by GCBC to make the information sessions accessible to organisations located across a wide geographic spread, given that capacity building work for country platforms spans emerging markets across multiple regions rather than concentrating in any single part of the world. Organisations interested in strengthening the capacity of governments, financial institutions, or project developers to design and deliver country platforms are encouraged to attend one of the two sessions ahead of the August 15 application deadline, positioning the accelerator as a potentially significant opportunity for capacity building organisations working at the intersection of climate finance and development implementation.
