Google Delegation Led by Wilson White Visits NIC Lahore Startups

Published on

National Incubation Center Lahore hosted Wilson L. White, Vice President of Global Affairs at Google, along with a delegation of senior company representatives, marking a notable visit that came shortly after Google formally launched its Pakistan office. The visit brought together Farhan Qureshi, Cluster Director, Fasieh Mehta, David Weller, Senior Director of Government Policy, Mervin Theo, Communications Lead, and Kyle Gardner, Public Policy Lead, alongside representatives from the U.S. Consulate, giving NIC Lahore’s founders direct access to some of Google’s senior policy and public affairs leadership.

White’s visit to Pakistan follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent welcome of Google’s arrival in the country, with the Prime Minister inaugurating the technology giant’s Pakistan office in Islamabad and describing Pakistan’s association with Google as the beginning of an important new journey. During that earlier meeting, White had indicated that Pakistan needed further steps to promote digital technology, suggesting the visit to NIC Lahore formed part of a broader effort by the delegation to engage directly with the country’s startup and innovation ecosystem beyond formal government meetings alone.

At NIC Lahore, the delegation engaged with founders, innovators, and ecosystem leaders in a setting organisers described as bringing together people shaping the future of technology, policy, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The gathering gave Google’s visiting leadership direct exposure to the kind of ventures being built within Pakistan’s incubation ecosystem, offering a more grounded perspective on the country’s startup landscape compared to formal government level engagements alone.

The visit’s timing, coming during Google’s broader push into establishing a more formal presence in Pakistan, suggests the delegation used the NIC Lahore stop as an opportunity to better understand the practical realities of the local startup ecosystem, including the kinds of support structures, mentorship networks, and industry partnerships already in place through incubators such as NIC Lahore. Given White’s role overseeing global affairs and government policy at Google, the visit also likely served to inform how the company approaches its broader public policy engagement with Pakistan going forward.

The event was supported by Ministry Of IT and Telecom, Pakistan Software Export Board, Ignite National Technology Fund, NETSOL Technologies, and HBL, alongside NIC Lahore’s broader consortium of institutional partners including Beaconhouse National University and University of Engineering and Technology Lahore. The visit adds to a growing pattern of major international technology companies engaging directly with Pakistan’s startup ecosystem, following Google’s formal entry into the country and reflecting a broader period of increased attention from global technology firms toward Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
