Amir Wain, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of i2c Inc, has been honoured with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in recognition of his outstanding contributions and service as an overseas Pakistani. Paklaunch extended congratulations to Wain following the announcement, describing the recognition as reflective of the broader impact Pakistani talent continues to have on the global stage.
Wain’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1987 when he founded Innovative Private Limited, a software development firm, before later founding Avanceon and eventually establishing i2c in 2001 with the goal of modernising financial technology. Under his leadership, i2c has grown into a global fintech powerhouse, with the company’s proprietary building block technology used by banks, credit unions, and fintech companies to create and scale financial products with what the company describes as unparalleled flexibility and security.
The Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, also spelled Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, is a state bestowed honour of Pakistan awarded to civilians based on their achievements, and can also be given to foreign citizens who have performed significant service to the country. The award represents the fourth grade within the broader Order of Imtiaz, sitting below the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, and Nishan-e-Imtiaz in the order’s hierarchy of civilian honours.
Beyond his leadership at i2c, Wain serves as Chairman of the Board at several other startups, including xIQ, an AI powered sales and marketing platform, and has also worked as a limited partner to venture capital funds focused on business to business companies leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning. He additionally chairs the Wain Foundation, an organisation focused on improving health and wellbeing, the quality of education, and access to clean water and sanitation. Through the foundation, Wain previously partnered with University of Sargodha to establish the Waheed Wain Incubation Center, aimed at supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and startups across Pakistan.
Wain’s recognition adds to a growing list of overseas Pakistanis honoured by the government for their contributions on the global stage, with his career reflecting a broader story of Pakistani entrepreneurship reaching international scale within the fintech and payments processing industry. Paklaunch’s acknowledgement of the honour reflects the continued visibility Wain has maintained within Pakistan’s startup and technology community, despite building and leading i2c primarily from an international base while maintaining significant operations and workforce within Pakistan.
