IBA CEDIR Holds Investor Readiness Sessions For Founders

Published on

IBA CEDIR brought together SAP founders for a session exploring two critical areas of fundraising, combining a Data Room Readiness workshop with a lecture by Mubariz Siddiqui on Deal Structures and Term Sheets. The session was built around the idea that a strong pitch may open the door to investor conversations, but that genuine investor readiness is what ultimately moves a deal forward, positioning the workshop as a practical complement to the more narrative focused aspects of fundraising founders typically spend more time preparing.

The Data Room Readiness component covered the process of organising legal, financial, intellectual property, commercial and human resources documents into a structured format investors expect to review during due diligence. This kind of organisational groundwork is often underestimated by early stage founders, who may have a compelling business but lack the documentation structure needed to move quickly once an investor expresses serious interest, making the gap between interest and a closed deal longer and more uncertain than it needs to be.

Mubariz Siddiqui’s lecture addressed deal structures and term sheets directly, walking participants through concepts including valuation, cap tables, investor rights, governance and due diligence. These are areas where founders without a finance or legal background often find themselves at a disadvantage during negotiations, unable to fully evaluate whether the terms being offered are reasonable or how specific provisions might affect their control over the company in later funding rounds. Building familiarity with these concepts ahead of an actual negotiation gives founders a stronger position from which to engage with investors and their legal counsel.

Participants in the session gained practical knowledge intended to help them approach investment conversations with greater clarity and confidence, reflecting IBA CEDIR’s broader emphasis on preparing founders for the substantive, evidence based aspects of fundraising rather than focusing solely on pitch delivery. The session’s framing, that raising capital requires evidence, structure and judgment in addition to a strong story, points to a consistent theme in the centre’s recent programming around building founders’ technical and financial competency ahead of investor engagement.

The session forms part of IBA CEDIR’s continued collaboration with the Sindh Enterprise Incubation Center and its broader network of contributors supporting founder education, reflecting an institutional effort to build out the practical, less visible skills that ultimately determine whether promising startups are able to convert investor interest into completed funding rounds.
