Ignite’s Initiative: Empowering 25,000 Freelancers with Innovative Subsidy Model

Ignite, the National Technology Fund, is unveiling an innovative subsidy model designed to bolster the endeavors of 25,000 freelancers nationwide. Operating within the co-working spaces initiative, this effort is gaining substantial traction and is anticipated to have a significant impact on the freelance landscape.

Sources within the Ministry of Information Technology revealed to ProPakistani that the funding for the co-working spaces project will be derived from two primary channels. The Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) has already given the green light to Rs. 1 billion dedicated to establishing e-Rozgar centers nationwide. This funding will be administered by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) to set up 250 e-Rozgar centers.

In the second phase of the project, spearheaded by Ignite, there is notable progress as the focus shifts towards crafting a subsidy model tailored to benefit 25,000 freelancers. With the final stages underway, Ignite is gearing up to seek board approval, paving the way for the release of a request for a proposal for the ambitious project.

This groundbreaking endeavor is estimated to incur a cost ranging from 2.5 billion to 3 billion rupees, with Ignite earmarking the budget to subsidize freelancers. The allocated funds will ultimately be channeled to co-working space owners, empowering them to furnish freelancers with essential facilities.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom is gearing up to launch e-Rozgar centers for freelancers in the imminent days. The PSEB, in collaboration with established Software Technology Parks spanning 27 cities, is diligently expanding the e-Rozgar network.

In a move to further incentivize private building owners, the government is set to provide interest-free loans of up to 10 million rupees for the conversion of their buildings into e-Rozgar centers. This multi-faceted initiative is poised to reshape the freelance landscape and bolster the digital economy in the country.
