Karachi Born Founder Ali Moiz Builds 170 Million Dollar Exit

Published on

Ali Moiz grew up in Karachi playing Prince of Persia on a secondhand console before eventually moving to Massachusetts for college, a path that would later lead him to drop out and pursue startups full time. Today he stands as a prominent tech entrepreneur, having built the software tool used by nearly every streamer on Twitch and YouTube, a milestone that arrived only after a series of earlier ventures that did not achieve similar success.

Before his eventual breakthrough, Moiz built three companies that fell short of his ultimate goals. He first launched early gaming projects including Xuqa, followed by an esports team named Vulcun, before co-founding and exiting Peanut Labs, a venture that sold for 30 million dollars but still did not represent his defining win. Moiz documented this difficult journey in his book, titled around the theme of three startups and forty pivots, reflecting the persistence required to keep building despite repeated setbacks in the early years of his career. His fourth venture ultimately changed the trajectory of his career entirely.

Moiz co-founded Streamlabs alongside his brother Murtaza Hussain and Tom Maneri, creating a software suite that allowed gamers to earn income from a hobby once dismissed as unprofitable. The platform quickly grew into the dominant software ecosystem for live broadcasters, processing over 80 million dollars in streamer tips within a single year, a scale of activity that eventually caught the attention of Logitech, which acquired Streamlabs for 170 million dollars.

Despite the scale of that exit, Moiz has continued building rather than stepping back from active involvement in the startup world. He currently serves as Founder and CEO of Stonks.com and as a General Partner at Stonks Fund, while also working with his brother Murtaza on a new AI company called PilotGPT. Beyond his operating roles, Moiz has become a prolific angel investor, backing over 200 startups including five unicorn companies, with a typical check size between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars invested globally across industries from pre-seed through Series B stages. His portfolio includes major global names such as Airbnb, Anthropic, Stripe, SpaceX, GivePanel, and Picsart, alongside more regionally relevant investments in startups like Airlift and Khatabook, underscoring his continued connection to the Pakistani startup ecosystem even as his career has scaled to a global stage.
