KOICA Pakistan Delegation Visits NIC Islamabad to Explore Collaboration in AI and Digital Transformation

Published on

The National Incubation Center Islamabad welcomed a delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Pakistan for a visit aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration in digital transformation and artificial intelligence innovation. The delegation included Harim Go, Deputy Country Director, Bora Kim, Digital Education Expert, Dayeon Kim, Young Professional, and Abdul Rehman Khan, Program Manager at KOICA Pakistan. The visit gave the agency a firsthand look at how the incubator operates and how it supports early stage ventures within Pakistan’s growing technology ecosystem.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed the facilities and wider ecosystem of NIC Islamabad, which allowed the visiting team to see how founders, mentors and support programs come together under one roof. Discussions that followed centered on the digitalisation and AI gaps between academia and industry, an issue that continues to shape how well graduates and research outputs translate into products and services that businesses actually need. Both sides examined how the distance between universities and the private sector could be narrowed, particularly in fast moving fields such as artificial intelligence, where classroom learning often trails behind the skills employers are now seeking.

A significant part of the conversation focused on building closer linkages between universities, startups, technology companies and other key stakeholders. Participants discussed how a more connected environment could help startups access research talent, help companies find new solutions from young ventures, and help universities align their programs with real market demand. The exchange reflected a broader recognition that no single institution can close these gaps alone, and that incubators sit in a useful position to bring the different sides of the ecosystem into the same room.

The visit also opened conversations around potential joint initiatives in AI, digital transformation, research and development, entrepreneurship and skills development. While no specific programs were announced, the discussions pointed toward areas where KOICA Pakistan and NIC Islamabad could work together to support the country’s technology sector, drawing on the agency’s experience in digital education and development cooperation. The visit was supported by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan, Tech Destination Pakistan and Ignite National Technology Fund, whose backing continues to underpin the national incubation network.
