Lahore Frames Brings Pakistan’s Animation Community Together for a Day of Competition and Learning

Published on

Lahore Frames, billed as the Animation Meetup, brought together more than 300 attendees for a full day dedicated to competition, learning, and creative exchange within Pakistan’s animation community. The event combined three live competitions, four hands-on workshops, and five company booths, drawing artists, creators, and industry professionals into a single space designed around visibility and connection rather than passive attendance.

The day’s centerpiece was the Animation Project Showcase, which put emerging student and independent work in front of an audience and a panel, with the top five projects earning a feature on HUM Network channels. That kind of distribution outcome is unusual for a community meetup and signals an attempt to build a real pipeline between grassroots animation talent and established media platforms in Pakistan. Alongside the showcase, Studio Spotlights gave attendees a look at award-winning international animation work paired with behind-the-scenes breakdowns of the creative process, offering local artists a rare direct view into how larger studios approach production.

The workshops, led by industry practitioners, were built to give participants practical skills rather than theoretical overviews, reflecting a broader trend in Pakistan’s creative and tech events toward hands-on formats over panel discussions. The event drew support from a mix of technology and creative studio partners, including Canva, Alibaba Cloud, Wakhra Studios, Sablo Studio, Gaming Academy in partnership with Voodoo, Elytra Studios, and Jan Cartoon, each contributing expertise and creative input to the day’s programming. Broadway Pizza and Korneez came on as snack partners, keeping the day-long event running for attendees moving between competitions, workshops, and booths.

Lahore Frames sits within a wider push by Ignite, the National Technology Fund under the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, to expand support beyond traditional tech startups into adjacent creative industries such as animation and gaming. Events like this one point to a growing recognition that Pakistan’s digital economy extends past software and fintech into content creation, an area where local talent has often lacked the kind of structured showcase and industry access that Lahore Frames aimed to provide. For animators and studios in Lahore’s creative scene, the event offered a concrete step toward visibility that the community has been building toward for some time.
