National Incubation Center Faisalabad hosted an FI Session bringing together Mustafa Rasheed, CEO at M.R Consulting Services, and Syed Muhammad Ismail, Co-Founder of Saraaf, to address a distinction that many early-stage founders miss, that securing funding is not simply about raising capital but about knowing when to raise, where to look, and how to prepare before ever approaching an investor. That framing shifts the session away from generic pitch advice toward the strategic timing and preparation decisions that often determine whether a fundraising attempt succeeds before a founder even walks into the room.
Pairing a consulting executive with a startup co-founder gives the session two distinct vantage points on the same fundraising process. Rasheed’s consulting background brings an outside advisory perspective shaped by working across multiple client situations, while Ismail’s position as Co-Founder of Saraaf offers a founder’s direct, lived experience of navigating the funding journey from inside a company rather than as an external observer. That combination lets NICF startups hear both the structured, advisory framing of fundraising strategy and the more candid, practical account of what the process actually feels like on the ground.
The session focused specifically on helping founders explore funding pathways and understand investor expectations, addressing two areas where early-stage founders frequently stumble, either pursuing the wrong type of capital for their stage or approaching investors without a clear sense of what those investors are actually evaluating. Building a stronger foundation for the fundraising journey before actively pursuing capital gives founders a better chance of avoiding wasted investor meetings or premature raises that can damage a startup’s credibility within a relatively small and interconnected investor community.
With backing from the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication and Ignite National Technology Fund, the FI Session adds to NIC Faisalabad’s growing lineup of funding-focused programming, following its recent Investor Pitch Practice and Review Workshop and Pitch Readiness Session, reinforcing a pattern of preparing founders methodically across the distinct stages of fundraising readiness rather than treating investor preparation as a single, one-off session.
