NIC Hyderabad joined the Just Energy Transition Café panel discussion titled Renewable Energy and Climate Innovation, Opportunities for Pakistan’s Next Generation, organised by the Civil Society Support Programme. Representing the NIC Hyderabad ecosystem, Mohcin Kareem, CEO and Founder of Pak Bio Energy, and GM Soomro, Manager of Monitoring and Evaluation at NIC Hyderabad, took part in the discussion addressing the opportunities and challenges within Pakistan’s renewable energy and climate tech space.
The conversation touched on several areas that emerging ventures need in order to grow, including access to financing, incubation, technical support, mentorship and market linkages, framing these as the practical building blocks required for climate tech and renewable energy startups to move from early stage concepts into sustainable ventures. The inclusion of both a startup founder and an incubation centre representative gave the panel a combination of firsthand entrepreneurial experience and institutional perspective on the support structures available to founders working in this space.
The discussion also opened up a conversation around the role young entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators can play in building a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for Pakistan, positioning the country’s next generation of founders and technical talent as central to progress within the renewable energy sector rather than treating climate innovation as a challenge for established industry players alone.
Kareem’s participation as CEO and Founder of Pak Bio Energy brought a direct entrepreneurial perspective to the panel, grounded in his own experience building a venture within the renewable energy space, while Soomro’s role at NIC Hyderabad offered insight into how incubation centres are working to support ventures in this sector as they navigate the specific technical and financing challenges associated with climate tech.
For NIC Hyderabad, participation in panels of this kind reflects a broader effort to contribute to building a stronger ecosystem for the next generation of innovators, extending its engagement beyond its own incubated startups to include participation in wider sector specific conversations happening across Sindh’s climate and renewable energy space. The session adds to a series of climate and sustainability focused programming NIC Hyderabad has engaged with, supported by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ignite National Technology Fund, PTCL and Tech Destination Pakistan.
