NIC Islamabad’s Cohort 5 founders are stepping into the Founder Institute Mentor Idea Review, a session in which they present their startup ideas, validation work, research, and customer insights to a room of experienced mentors drawn from a range of industries and geographies. The premise behind the session rests on the idea that a short pitch, often no more than three minutes, can open the door to the kind of pointed questioning that matters most for an early-stage founder, surfacing gaps in an idea’s logic or research that might otherwise go unaddressed until much later in a venture’s development.
Over the course of the session, founders will pitch their ideas, receive direct feedback, answer difficult questions, and take part in focused mentoring conversations designed specifically to challenge their underlying assumptions and strengthen their ventures before those assumptions are tested by the market itself. Mentors participating in the review include Karin Wellbrock, Executive and Team Coach at Kay Group KK, Hozaima Malik, Executive Director at CyberVision International, Ayami Wanasinghe, Regional Director for South Asia at Founder Institute, and Umayr Masud, Chief Operating Officer at Change Mechanics. They are joined by Shahzaib Zulfiqar, Founder and Principal Consultant at Grassroots Foundry, Dr. Mohsin Zahid, Founder and CEO of Neuron Solution, and Sarfraz Arshad, Chief Strategy Officer at ToyCycle, giving founders exposure to a mentor panel spanning coaching, corporate innovation, entrepreneurship, and international development experience.
The evaluation criteria applied during the session extend across the viability of each idea, the quality of its presentation, and the depth of research behind it, framing the session as considerably more substantial than a typical pitch review. Rather than simply offering encouragement or surface-level feedback, the format is intended to help founders understand precisely what holds up under scrutiny, what still needs further work, and what it genuinely takes to move an idea closer to becoming a scalable business, giving them a clearer sense of the gap between an early concept and a venture ready for further investment or growth.
Scheduled for Day 1 on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the session will bring together founders participating both virtually and in person at NIC Islamabad, accommodating those unable to attend on-site while preserving the same evaluative rigor for all participants regardless of format. The event is supported by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Tech Destination Pakistan, and Ignite National Technology Fund, continuing the pattern of public sector backing behind NIC Islamabad’s founder-facing programming, with the session forming part of the incubator’s broader effort to give Cohort 5 founders a rigorous, mentor-led checkpoint as they work to refine their startup ideas ahead of further stages in their entrepreneurial journey.
