NIC Islamabad Hosts Deal Ready Financial Projections Workshop Session

Published on

National Incubation Center Islamabad opened its Deal Ready series with a Financial Projections and Unit Economics Workshop, built around three questions many founders struggle to answer with precision before they ever sit across from an investor, what it actually costs to acquire a customer, what that customer is worth over time, and how those two figures translate into genuinely sustainable growth. Framing Day One of the series around these fundamentals reflects an understanding that founders often approach investor conversations with strong narrative pitches but comparatively shaky command of the underlying unit economics that sophisticated investors will inevitably probe first.

The workshop walked founders through the financial foundation investors expect them to understand, spanning customer acquisition costs and customer value through to revenue assumptions, runway, funding requirements, and the intended use of capital. Rather than treating these as abstract concepts to be lectured on, founders worked through their own financial models from the ground up, building each assumption individually and examining the specific drivers behind every number rather than accepting projections generated through generic templates.

Organizers were explicit that the goal was not simply to complete a spreadsheet exercise but to build a model founders could explain, challenge, and defend, treating financial clarity as a genuine component of investor readiness rather than a box-ticking formality. By the end of the workshop, each team had produced a three-year financial model alongside a clearer understanding of the numbers shaping their business, with the exercise also surfacing assumptions that needed to be revisited for some teams, a result organizers framed as precisely the point of preparation, catching weak assumptions now rather than fielding uncomfortable questions in an actual investor conversation scheduled for 29 September.

The workshop was led by Shakir Aslam, associate at Amaana Capital, while Muhammad Ali Taufiq, director of investments at Fatima Gobi Ventures, joined for a segment called The Investor Lens, sharing what investors actually look at first when reviewing a startup’s financials. Pairing a workshop facilitator with a practicing venture investor gave founders both the technical modeling guidance and a direct read on investor priorities in the same session. The Deal Ready series continues next with a session on Due Diligence Readiness, part of NIC Islamabad’s broader Road to 29 September programming, supported by Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Tech Destination Pakistan, and Ignite National Technology Fund.
