NIC Islamabad Runs Investor Narrative and Deck Build Workshop

Published on

Founders at National Incubation Center Islamabad spent September 9 and 10 in a two-day Investor Narrative and Deck Build Workshop, working through the harder problem that often sits underneath a weak pitch, not a lack of information about the business but an inability to compress it into something an investor can immediately understand. The workshop split cleanly into two distinct phases, treating narrative and deck as separate skills rather than assuming a clear investor presentation would emerge automatically once the underlying business made sense to the founder.

Day one focused entirely on narrative, pushing founders to test whether they could explain what their company actually does in a single sentence, and whether that explanation would hold up for someone entirely outside their industry with no context on the jargon founders often default to when describing their own work. Founders repeatedly tested, refined, and rewrote their core message throughout the day, a process that forces a kind of clarity many early-stage companies never actually achieve before walking into an investor meeting, since founders close to their own product often overestimate how self-evident its value is to someone hearing about it for the first time.

Day two turned that narrative into an actual investor deck, with each slide built around a specific question an investor is likely to ask and every number tied directly back to the financial model founders had already developed earlier in the programme. That structural discipline, forcing every slide to answer an anticipated question rather than simply present information, reflects an approach to deck building that treats the presentation as an argument rather than a summary, which tends to hold up better under the kind of direct questioning founders can expect once they are actually in front of investors.

Samar Hasan led both sessions with what participants described as a practical, rigorous approach, while Haseeb Shaikh brought what the programme called the investor lens, showing founders specifically how investors read a deck and what details make them look twice rather than skim past. With the workshop complete, NIC Islamabad’s Cohort moves toward Investor Summit 2026 on September 29, where the narrative and deck work from these two days will face its actual test in front of the investors the sessions were designed to prepare founders for.
