National Incubation Center Islamabad welcomed a group of students and faculty from Riphah International University for an industry-focused visit designed to give students a closer look at the technology and startup ecosystem. The visit brought together students from Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence, two disciplines Riphah has built out through dedicated academic units since its founding in 2002 as a federally chartered university now serving more than 12,000 students across its Islamabad and Rawalpindi campuses.
The visit provided students an opportunity to explore how the concepts they study in the classroom translate into real-world products, technologies, and businesses, addressing a gap that computing and AI students frequently encounter between theoretical coursework and the messier, more improvisational realities of building something commercially viable. Rather than treating the visit as a passive tour, NIC Islamabad framed it around active exploration, giving students direct exposure to how startups actually develop solutions, navigate operational and market challenges, and turn underlying technology into a functioning business.
For students preparing for careers in computing and emerging technologies, experiences like this help bridge the gap between what they learn and where they can eventually apply it, while also encouraging them to think beyond conventional career paths defined narrowly as either academia or corporate employment. Exposure to a functioning incubation ecosystem gives students a third option to weigh seriously, one where their technical training could translate directly into founding or joining an early-stage venture rather than only working within an existing organizational structure.
NIC Islamabad framed the visit around a broader institutional belief that meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom, describing its decision to open its ecosystem to students as a deliberate effort to help them explore, interact, and understand the world they are preparing to enter professionally. The visit continues NIC Islamabad’s pattern of engaging directly with academic institutions this year, following its earlier hosting of a National Institute of Public Administration delegation, extending that same principle of direct exposure from senior civil servants to undergraduate students navigating their own entry into Pakistan’s technology and startup ecosystem. The visit was supported by Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Tech Destination Pakistan, and Ignite National Technology Fund.
