NIC Karachi, in collaboration with Orbit Ventures, recently commenced the second cohort of its Acceleration Program, focusing on equipping early-stage startups with essential fundraising skills and investor insights. The opening session featured a workshop titled Fundraising 101, delivered by Hiruy Ephrem, Senior Associate at Orbit Ventures, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of capital raising for nascent companies. The session emphasized the critical elements every founder must consider when approaching potential investors, blending practical guidance with strategic thinking to help startups navigate early-stage fundraising challenges.

During the workshop, founders explored the diverse landscape of investors, gaining clarity on different investor types and understanding the unique criteria each looks for when evaluating potential investments. The session also addressed the preparation of key fundraising documents, ensuring startups can communicate their vision with both clarity and conviction. Founders learned how to craft pitch decks, executive summaries, and financial forecasts that align with investor expectations while reflecting the company’s long-term goals. This approach allows emerging entrepreneurs to present a coherent, compelling narrative that demonstrates both potential and preparedness.

The program further guided startups on building a capital strategy that balances ambitious long-term objectives with achievable milestones. Participants gained practical tips on structuring funding rounds, negotiating terms, and managing investor relationships, helping them approach early-stage capital with confidence. The workshop emphasized understanding the investor mindset, including what motivates funding decisions and how founders can position themselves for success in a competitive startup ecosystem.

Beyond technical skills, the session fostered an environment of mentorship and collaborative learning. Founders were encouraged to share challenges, ask questions, and receive feedback from experienced venture professionals, creating a space where knowledge and practical experience intersect. The hands-on nature of the workshop allowed participants to actively apply concepts to their own fundraising plans, ensuring that theoretical lessons translated into actionable strategies for their startups.

This initiative reflects NIC Karachi’s commitment to nurturing early-stage startups in Pakistan, providing them with tools, insights, and mentorship essential for sustainable growth. By partnering with Orbit Ventures, the program leverages industry expertise to strengthen the capacity of founders, empowering them to secure investment while aligning their business strategy with long-term objectives. The Acceleration Program emphasizes skill-building, strategic thinking, and practical readiness, fostering a cohort that is not only fundraising-ready but also future-ready.

Through the launch of Cohort 2, NIC Karachi and Orbit Ventures are creating opportunities for emerging startups to engage with seasoned professionals, gain confidence in capital raising, and refine their business strategies. By equipping founders with the knowledge to navigate investor landscapes and develop compelling funding narratives, the program aims to strengthen Pakistan’s startup ecosystem, ensuring early-stage ventures have the resources and guidance necessary to grow, innovate, and succeed in an increasingly competitive market.
