NIC Karachi Hosts EmpowerHer WIE Mentorship and Leadership Summit 2026

NIC Karachi hosted the EmpowerHer: WIE Mentorship and Leadership Summit 2026, bringing together students, professionals, and aspiring leaders for a full day of structured mentorship, leadership-focused discussions, and networking centered on the experiences and ambitions of women working across engineering, technology, and entrepreneurship. The summit was moderated by Hira Shafi, founder of Wellfolks, whose facilitation guided the day’s conversations through themes of leadership, innovation, confidence, and career growth in a way that connected the personal dimensions of professional development with the structural questions about representation and opportunity that shape the environment women in these fields continue to navigate.

The EmpowerHer summit occupied a distinct space within NIC Karachi’s event programming by centering explicitly on the development of women across multiple stages of their professional journeys simultaneously. Bringing students, working professionals, and aspiring leaders into the same room creates a dynamic that benefits all groups in ways that more narrowly targeted events typically cannot achieve. Students gain visibility into what professional trajectories in technology and entrepreneurship actually look like for women who are already further along those paths, while professionals gain the kind of perspective that comes from engaging with a younger cohort whose questions and challenges reflect the current state of the landscape rather than the one that existed when the professionals were at the same stage. The mentorship dimension of the summit was designed to facilitate exactly this kind of exchange, creating structured touchpoints between participants at different career stages rather than leaving those connections to chance.

The conversations across the day covered leadership not as an abstract quality but as a set of practical skills and dispositions that can be developed, including how to build confidence in environments where women remain underrepresented, how to identify and pursue career growth opportunities in technology and entrepreneurship fields, and how innovation as a mindset connects to the specific challenges and advantages that women bring to the ventures and organisations they build or lead. The breadth of the thematic content reflected an understanding that the barriers women face in engineering, technology, and entrepreneurship are not uniform and cannot be addressed through a single conversation, but require sustained engagement across multiple dimensions of professional experience and personal development.

The overwhelming participation in EmpowerHer 2026, noted by the organisers, reflected a level of community interest in this kind of dedicated space for women in technology and entrepreneurship that goes beyond what a single event can fully accommodate, pointing to both the depth of the need and the scale of the opportunity for continued programming in this space. NIC Karachi, supported by Ignite and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication alongside partners including Tech Destination Pakistan, LMKT, LuckyOne Mall, and Orbit Ventures, has built a consistent track record of creating events that serve specific and underserved segments of Karachi’s startup and technology community. The EmpowerHer summit adds to that record an event that addressed one of the most consequential gaps in Pakistan’s technology ecosystem, the full participation of women as founders, engineers, and leaders, with the seriousness and the structure the challenge deserves.
