NICAT has signed a strategic agreement with Terminal Istanbul, Türkiye’s largest technology park, opening a new bridge between Pakistan and Türkiye’s innovation ecosystems. Terminal Istanbul is a striking ecosystem in its own right, built by transforming an entire airport terminal into a thriving hub for technology, startups, investors and innovation, and the agreement gives Pakistani founders a direct line into that environment. The significance of the milestone was underlined by the presence of Türkiye’s Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, at the inauguration of Terminal Istanbul, lending the launch a level of government attention that few technology park openings receive.
Terminal Istanbul has already built an extensive global network since its inauguration, with connections to technology giants including Google, Microsoft, AWS and Samsung, alongside leading global accelerators such as Techstars, Plug and Play and Tenity, as well as a wide circle of international investors and ecosystem organizations. At the inauguration, NICAT stood out as the only Pakistani innovation hub to sign an agreement with Terminal Istanbul, giving Pakistani startups a rare and early point of entry into a network that many countries in the region would be eager to access.
The collaboration between NICAT and Terminal Istanbul will center on several concrete areas, including soft landing opportunities for startups moving between Pakistan and Türkiye, startup exchanges and broader ecosystem access, joint hackathons and innovation initiatives, and structured pathways for promising startups to explore new markets. Each of these components addresses a different barrier that early stage companies typically face when trying to expand abroad, from the practical logistics of setting up in a new country to the harder task of finding customers, investors and collaborators once they arrive.
NICAT views this as an opportunity that can extend well beyond its own portfolio. Terminal Istanbul has expressed interest in exploring a larger pipeline of Pakistani startups, and through Accelerate Prosperity, NICAT is looking at a collaborative, cross NIC approach that could bring promising startups from across Pakistan’s wider incubation ecosystem into the conversation, rather than limiting the opportunity to companies incubated at NICAT alone. Framed as more than an agreement between two organizations, the initiative is being positioned as the start of a Pakistan Türkiye bridge for startups, innovation, investment and international market access, adding one more pathway for Pakistani innovation to reach a global audience.
