The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, introducing the Innovation Hub as the initiative’s dedicated digital platform. The programme is designed to build a national institutional framework for innovation in the country’s power sector, bringing together young talent, researchers, universities, startups, industry players and experts to develop practical solutions to the energy challenges facing Pakistan.
More than Rs1 billion will be allocated over the next three years for mentorship, technical assistance, pilot implementation and the scaling of successful innovations, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, addressing the launch, said the world was changing rapidly under the influence of artificial intelligence, digitalization, emerging technologies and new business models, and that the power sector needed not only greater effort but greater innovation, creative thinking and continuous improvement. He said the programme was not merely a competition but the first national institutional framework of its kind for the sector, intended to identify, evaluate, mentor and support innovative ideas and turn them into practical solutions.
The programme aims to identify and support promising ideas, converting innovative concepts and research into tested, scalable solutions that can contribute to a more efficient, reliable and sustainable power sector. It provides a structured pathway for ideas to move from concept and research stages towards mentorship, technical support, pilot implementation and eventual national-scale deployment.
The minister invited young Pakistanis, including students, researchers, startups and professionals, to take part in the programme and submit their ideas through the Innovation Hub platform, describing it as a national effort to shape the future of energy in Pakistan.
