SEED Ventures Meets Sri Lanka Consulate On Trade Collaboration

Published on

Shaista Ayesha, chief executive officer of SEED Ventures, and Samrah Qureshi, business development manager at SEED Ventures, met with Sanjeewa Pattiwila to explore avenues for meaningful bilateral collaboration between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, extending the enterprise development organization’s work beyond domestic incubation into direct diplomatic and trade-focused engagement. The meeting reflects a broader pattern among Pakistani entrepreneurship organizations of treating international consular relationships as a legitimate channel for opening market access, rather than confining that kind of engagement solely to larger government-to-government trade delegations.

The conversation centered on building business linkages, mapping markets, and creating business-to-business opportunities for small and medium enterprises, women-led businesses, and emerging entrepreneurs, treating market mapping as a necessary precursor to any meaningful cross-border commercial activity rather than assuming demand and supply will naturally find each other without structured facilitation. For SMEs in particular, unfamiliar overseas markets often present a genuine information gap that prevents otherwise capable businesses from ever attempting international expansion, making this kind of mapping work a practical first step rather than a symbolic gesture.

The discussion also explored ways to improve market access for women entrepreneurs specifically, through partnerships, knowledge exchange, and stronger cross-border networks, alongside potential collaboration in youth development, sustainability, and cultural engagement. Layering these additional themes onto a primarily trade-focused conversation reflects SEED’s broader approach to enterprise development, one that treats commercial opportunity, social inclusion, and cultural exchange as interconnected rather than separate tracks of institutional engagement.

SEED framed the meeting around the principle that enterprise development cannot happen in isolation, arguing that entrepreneurs need access to the right markets, relationships, and opportunities to translate their potential into sustainable growth. By pairing SEED’s enterprise-development capabilities with the Consulate’s trade, investment, and cultural mandate, the meeting opened a practical conversation around creating concrete opportunities for businesses and communities in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, positioning the engagement as a starting point for follow-up collaboration rather than a standalone diplomatic courtesy call.
