Sindh Enterprise Incubation Center will host a session on Financial Foundations and Accounting 101 tomorrow, Wednesday, 14 October, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at its Catalyst Hall. The session is led by Dr Mohsin Adhi, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Capital (Private) Limited, and it is held in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurial Development, Innovation and Research at the Institute of Business Administration Karachi. It is meant for the founders of Cohort 2, and it aims to build their understanding of financial fundamentals, accounting principles and effective financial management so that they can run sustainable, growth-oriented businesses.
Basic financial literacy is one of the most common gaps among early stage founders. Many teams build a strong product but keep weak records, mix personal and business money, or cannot say how much cash they have left and for how long. These habits become a serious problem when founders approach investors or banks, since lenders and investors expect clean accounts, a clear view of costs and a sound understanding of cash flow. A four hour session on accounting basics gives founders a chance to fix such problems early, before they become costly.
Mohsin Adhi brings long experience in the capital markets. He has more than 19 years in the field, mainly in equity brokerage, and he helped Alpha Capital move from a family-owned brokerage into a professionally run company. He started as a sales trader in 2003, later headed business development and became the company secretary in 2016, and he has served on a market development committee of the Pakistan Stock Exchange. He has also taught as visiting faculty at the Institute of Business Administration, SZABIST and Bahria University, and he holds a master’s degree in finance and financial law from SOAS University of London. Alpha Capital is a Karachi-based securities brokerage with a trading right entitlement certificate from the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
The session follows an earlier one for the same cohort on customer profiling and ideal customer profile analysis, held on 12 October. Sindh Enterprise Incubation Center was set up by the Science and Information Technology Department of the Government of Sindh and is run together with Sapphire Consulting Services and HUM Network. Together, the sessions are building a practical programme for Cohort 2, covering the commercial and financial skills that founders need as they move from an early idea to a company that can attract customers and capital.
