UNIDO and Yunus Environment Hub Delegation Visits NIC Karachi

Published on

A UNIDO delegation, comprising Ambreen Naz, National Social Sector Expert, alongside a delegation from Yunus Environment Hub including Christina Jäger, Co-founder and Managing Director, and Julie Chrysler, Circular Economy and Social Impact Director, visited NIC Karachi to engage with the startup ecosystem and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The pairing of a UNIDO representative with Yunus Environment Hub delegates gave the visit a distinct focus on sustainability and social impact, reflecting the specific institutional priorities both organisations bring to their engagement with emerging startup ecosystems.

During the visit, the delegation met with NIC Karachi Project Director Syed Azfar Hussain to exchange insights on the centre’s initiatives and discuss areas of mutual interest in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. This direct engagement with NIC Karachi’s leadership gave the visiting delegation a clearer understanding of how the incubator structures its programming and where potential collaboration with international organisations like UNIDO and Yunus Environment Hub might fit most naturally within that existing framework.

The delegation also engaged directly with founders building innovative solutions in ClimateTech, AgriTech, and Renewable Energy, sectors that align closely with the sustainability and social impact focus both UNIDO and Yunus Environment Hub bring to their work internationally. Beyond meeting with established founders, the discussions also explored initiatives that could support students and aspiring entrepreneurs, suggesting the delegation was interested not just in NIC Karachi’s current cohort of startups but in the broader pipeline of future founders the ecosystem is working to develop.

The discussions identified promising opportunities for collaboration between UNIDO and NIC Karachi to advance innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurial development, with the potential to create greater opportunities for startups and strengthen Pakistan’s innovation ecosystem more broadly. The visit was supported by Tech Destination Pakistan, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ignite National Technology Fund, LMKT, LuckyOne Mall, and Orbit Ventures, continuing the pattern of institutional backing behind NIC Karachi’s efforts to connect its founder community with international organisations capable of extending both funding opportunities and specialised sustainability expertise to Pakistan’s growing ClimateTech and AgriTech sectors.
