USAID Announces Second Round of FDI Grants for Pakistani Firms

Published on

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced the second round of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Grants under its Investment Promotion Activity (IPA) initiative, aimed at fostering growth and encouraging foreign investments in Pakistani firms. The FDI grants serve as a crucial catalyst by mitigating risks for businesses, thereby facilitating the closing of investment deals.

USAID’s IPA is now accepting grant applications from firms operating in four priority sectors that show the greatest potential for attracting foreign direct investment. These sectors include Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Manufacturing, Agri-tech Business and Processing, and Hospitality/Tourism. Companies from other industries are also eligible to apply, offering broader opportunities for businesses to secure financial support.

Firms that qualify for this grant can receive up to $100,000 in funding, which will be disbursed in local currency based on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of award. This flexible approach helps businesses navigate fluctuating financial conditions while pursuing their investment goals.

The deadline to apply for the grants is November 30, 2023, and USAID is actively encouraging applications from youth and women-led or women-owned businesses. By prioritizing these groups, USAID aims to promote greater inclusion and innovation within Pakistan’s investment landscape.

The announcement of Round 2 of the FDI Grants is part of USAID’s broader strategy to stimulate foreign direct investment in Pakistan and support the country’s economic development. This initiative comes at a time when the Pakistani economy, like others globally, is navigating challenging economic conditions, making such grants a significant opportunity for businesses seeking growth and international investment.
