NIC Karachi has entered into a strategic partnership with CodeGirls, a pioneering tech education initiative by ConsulNet Corporation, aimed at creating a more gender-inclusive technology ecosystem in Pakistan. The agreement, signed on 22 July 2025, marks a significant step towards expanding opportunities for women in the country’s growing digital economy.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by Syed Azfar Hussain, Project Director of NIC Karachi, and Shamim Rajani, CEO of CodeGirls. This collaboration underscores both organizations’ shared vision of establishing safe, diverse, and empowering spaces in technology, with a particular focus on bridging gender gaps in the industry.

Through this partnership, NIC Karachi and CodeGirls will work jointly on initiatives such as mentoring programs, technical training, capacity-building sessions, and awareness campaigns. The goal is to ensure that women in Pakistan’s tech sector have access to the same opportunities and career growth as their male counterparts. The alliance also aims to build a stronger talent pipeline by equipping women with digital skills that are increasingly in demand both locally and globally.

Speaking on the occasion, Shamim Rajani highlighted the importance of inclusive innovation in building a sustainable future for Pakistan’s digital sector. She emphasized that empowering women in tech is not only a matter of equity but also a driver of economic growth and creativity.

Syed Azfar Hussain reaffirmed NIC Karachi’s commitment to supporting diversity within Pakistan’s startup and innovation ecosystem. He noted that partnerships like this reflect a broader vision of ensuring the country’s digital transformation benefits all segments of society, particularly women who have historically been underrepresented in technology fields.

The partnership has been welcomed by key stakeholders in Pakistan’s innovation ecosystem, including the Ministry of IT & Telecom, Ignite – National Technology Fund, Tech Destination Pakistan, LMKT, LuckyOne, and Orbit Startups, all of which continue to play pivotal roles in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

With this MoU, NIC Karachi and CodeGirls are setting a precedent for collaboration in promoting gender diversity in Pakistan’s tech industry. By providing women with access to mentorship and skill-building opportunities, the initiative aims to shape a more inclusive and equitable future for the country’s technology sector.
