Pakistan Launches Rs 2.5B Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation to Boost Youth Skills

Published on

Pakistan’s long-awaited Center of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA) is set to officially begin operations on August 1, 2025, marking a major step forward for the country’s creative technology sector. Valued at Rs 2.52 billion, the project is funded by Ignite National Technology Fund under the Ministry of IT & Telecom and aims to become a national hub for developing high-demand skills in animation, game development, and digital media.

The contract for CEGA has been awarded to HUM Networks Ltd. for a term of five years and three months. The scope includes establishing state-of-the-art infrastructure, co-working facilities, and structured training programs designed to equip Pakistani youth with the technical capabilities needed to compete in global creative industries.

According to official records, the project’s rollout was delayed due to procedural reviews and multiple evaluation phases. It received final approval from Ignite’s Board of Directors in May 2025, followed by the contract signing on July 15, 2025. With these administrative hurdles cleared, CEGA is now ready to begin its mission of capacity building and innovation.

The initiative addresses a key gap in Pakistan’s creative economy, where talent often lacks access to formal training and industry-standard tools. With over 195 million mobile phone users and more than 30,000 ICT graduates annually, the country holds strong potential for digital innovation. CEGA’s training and incubation model is expected to channel this potential into the global $500 billion gaming and animation market, creating new opportunities for local talent.

In addition to skill development, CEGA is designed to serve as a launchpad for startups and independent creators, providing them with access to mentorship, networking, and international market exposure. Officials believe this will contribute to boosting Pakistan’s digital exports, fostering entrepreneurship, and generating employment opportunities in the rapidly growing creative technology sector.

Industry observers note that the timing is critical. With global demand for digital content accelerating, countries that invest in talent and infrastructure now are likely to secure a competitive advantage. CEGA’s comprehensive approach—combining technical training, business support, and industry linkages—positions Pakistan to take part in this growth in a meaningful way.

For Pakistani youth, the launch of CEGA represents both a training ground and a gateway to global opportunities, signalling a shift towards recognizing creative technology as a driver of economic growth.
