NIC Karachi Startup Saheli Builds Pakistan First AI Health Companion

Published on

Saheli AI Health Companion is building what its founder describes as Pakistan’s first AI powered health companion focused on periods, pregnancy and prevention, a startup working to bring dedicated digital health support to areas of women’s health that have historically received limited attention within Pakistan’s technology sector. The company was founded by Saba Nisar and developed as part of NIC Karachi’s Cohort 14 incubation programme.

Saheli’s product centres on combining artificial intelligence with health areas that carry significant cultural sensitivity in Pakistan, requiring the platform to navigate both the technical challenges of building a reliable AI health tool and the social context surrounding open discussion of menstrual health and pregnancy. By focusing specifically on periods, pregnancy and prevention, Saheli is targeting a segment of healthcare that has often been underserved by dedicated digital products, despite affecting a significant portion of the population on an ongoing basis.

The startup’s work recently gained wider visibility through a feature on HUM News, moving Saheli’s story beyond the startup ecosystem and into mainstream television coverage. This kind of exposure matters particularly for a health tech company working in an area where public awareness and comfort discussing the subject matter openly can directly affect user adoption, making media coverage a potential contributor to the platform’s broader reach beyond its existing user base.

Nisar’s approach to building Saheli reflects a broader pattern among founders developing femtech products in Pakistan, where addressing genuine healthcare gaps often requires confronting both a technical product challenge and a cultural communication challenge simultaneously. The company’s positioning as Pakistan’s first AI powered health companion focused on this specific combination of periods, pregnancy and prevention suggests an attempt to build a comprehensive platform rather than addressing a single, narrower health need.

As femtech continues to develop as a distinct category within Pakistan’s broader health technology sector, Saheli’s growing visibility, from its early development at NIC Karachi to its recent feature on national television, positions the startup as one of the more prominent examples of AI being applied to women’s health challenges within the country.
