NIC Islamabad has opened applications for Cohort 6, inviting founders building startups with the ambition to scale to apply for its incubation programme. The call frames scaling as a challenge that goes beyond product development and ambition alone, positioning access, rather than effort or vision, as the factor that most often separates startups that scale from those that stall.
The programme identifies several specific hurdles that commonly prevent startups from scaling, including limited customer access, funding gaps, a lack of experienced mentors, limited strategic partnerships and limited global opportunities. Framing these as distinct, named obstacles gives founders a clearer picture of the kinds of structural barriers NIC Islamabad’s incubation support is designed to help address, rather than presenting scaling challenges as a single, undifferentiated problem.
NIC Islamabad has positioned itself as a connector between founders and the opportunities needed to overcome these barriers, offering access to the right customers, capital, expertise, strategic partners and opportunities beyond a startup’s current market. This framing suggests the incubation centre sees its core value less in providing capital or mentorship in isolation, and more in facilitating the specific connections that allow a startup to move from early traction into sustained growth.
The emphasis on connection over resources reflects a broader understanding of what separates startups that manage to break into new markets or secure follow on funding from those that remain confined to their initial customer base. NIC Islamabad’s messaging suggests that the right introduction, whether to a new customer, a strategic partner, a new market or an investor, can function as a meaningful inflection point in a startup’s growth trajectory, one that internal effort alone often cannot replicate.
The programme is supported by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Tech Destination Pakistan and Ignite National Technology Fund, alongside collaborators including Fauji Foundation, Founder Institute and Cybervision International.
