Fatima Gobi Ventures Becomes First Pakistani VC to Back Unicorn Fasset

Published on

Fatima Gobi Ventures has become the first Pakistani venture capital firm to back a unicorn, with portfolio company Fasset reaching a one billion dollar valuation following its recent Series C funding round. The milestone marks a significant moment for Pakistan’s venture capital ecosystem, positioning Fatima Gobi Ventures as the first domestic VC firm to have backed a company that has crossed the unicorn threshold.

Fasset, a fintech company building stablecoin based financial infrastructure, reached its unicorn valuation after raising sixty eight million dollars in a Series C round led by Japan’s SBI Group, bringing its total fundraising for 2026 to one hundred and nineteen million dollars. Fatima Gobi Ventures’ earlier investment in Fasset has now paid off in the form of this valuation milestone, giving the firm a concrete example of successful early stage backing translating into a globally significant outcome.

Fatima Gobi Ventures framed the achievement as more than a funding milestone, describing it as a testament to the founders, investors, and ecosystem builders who continue to put Pakistan on the global innovation map. This framing positions the milestone within a broader narrative about Pakistan’s venture capital and startup ecosystem gaining credibility on the international stage, rather than treating it purely as a financial win for the fund itself.

The firm extended recognition to its team, including Hisham Ibrahim, Thomas G. Tsao, Ali Mukhtar, Naiel Ikram, and Saad Pall, crediting their collective work in identifying and supporting Fasset’s growth from an earlier stage investment through to its current unicorn status. This kind of team recognition reflects the collaborative nature of venture capital investment decisions, where identifying promising companies early and providing ongoing support often involves multiple individuals across a fund’s investment and portfolio management functions.

The milestone adds to a broader narrative of Pakistani founded and Pakistani backed companies achieving international recognition and scale, following closely on the heels of Fasset’s own unicorn announcement. Fatima Gobi Ventures’ position as the first Pakistani VC to achieve this outcome may also serve as a reference point for other domestic venture capital firms working to build track records capable of attracting further international investor confidence in Pakistan’s broader startup and venture capital ecosystem.
