GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience: New Start-ups Selected

Published on

Amidst the growing urgency of climate change, the GSMA launched the Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation 2.0 at MWC Barcelona in February 2023. This fund aims to accelerate the adoption of digital innovations to help vulnerable populations adapt to climate change impacts and strengthen biodiversity. Following 593 applications from 83 countries, a new cohort of start-ups has been selected for funding.

These start-ups from various regions focus on innovative solutions ranging from supporting dairy farmers in Nepal to advancing sustainable agriculture in Tanzania and improving agricultural productivity in Pakistan. Other initiatives include tackling food loss and waste in Kenya, strengthening climate resilience in rural communities in Thailand, and empowering smallholder farmers in India, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Ghana, and Kenya.

Over the grant period, the selected start-ups will receive support in partnership facilitation, technical assistance, impact measurement, scalability planning, and visibility enhancement. By catalyzing these digital solutions, the GSMA aims to generate valuable insights and promote sustainability and scalability in digital climate resilience efforts.

Funded by UK International Development and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), this initiative underscores the commitment of the GSMA and its members to empower innovators and address climate risks effectively. To learn more, explore the GSMA Innovation Fund portfolio.
