Pakistani Startup Lowerated Builds All-in-One Filmmaking Platform From Karak

Published on

Two brothers from Karak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have built a filmmaking platform that the company says now serves more than 50,000 writers, directors, actors, and crew members. Muhammad Wisal and Muhammad Ali founded Lowerated with, in their own account, no investors and no industry connections, after noticing that independent filmmakers were juggling separate tools for scripts, budgets, and schedules, and that a single change in one document could quietly break the others. Wisal serves as Founder and CEO and Ali as Co-Founder and COO, and the company’s stated vision is zero barriers during film creation, with a mission of making filmmaking easy.

The platform brings the early stages of a production into one workspace. Writers draft in industry screenplay format, and the system tags characters, props, and locations, with the company saying it can tag up to 21 production elements such as costumes and sound. Those tags feed a breakdown, a stripboard, a schedule, call sheets, and a budget that stay linked, so a change to one scene updates the plan around it. Producers can post casting roles and collect self-tapes, and filmmakers can publish a film page with a poster, trailer, and credits. Lowerated also includes an AI assistant called Oli, which drafts call sheets, tags props, and answers questions about a script, while the company says it will never write a user’s story for them.

Pricing is built around adding tools as a project grows. A free Basic tier offers a manual script editor, a basic idea chat, unlimited projects, and 200 AI credits a month. The Scriptwriter plan costs 10 dollars a month and adds AI writing help, version history, real time collaboration, and 2,000 credits, while the Producer plan costs 30 dollars a month and covers storyboards, casting, location scouting, budgeting, scheduling, and 6,000 credits. Teams can stack both plans for 40 dollars a month, and extra team members cost 20 dollars each. The company is registered at an address in Newark, Delaware, while its founders work from Pakistan.

Beyond the core tools, Lowerated has built several projects meant to draw in its community. It has produced its own film, Heart of a Creator, written by Wisal together with Lowerated users who voted on where the story went next. It also publishes LM6, an open source algorithm that rates and recommends films by weighing reviews and other sources so that no single crowd can tip a score, and it is running a Best of Lowerated film festival with CHEYNI, which is open for submissions. On its website, the company lists CHEYNI, Bahria University Business Incubation Center, invideo, Vector, PFS, and Waya among the organisations it keeps company with, though it does not name individual customers. For Pakistan’s startup ecosystem, the story offers a rare example of a creator tools company built outside the main tech hubs and aimed squarely at a global audience of independent filmmakers.
