Beaconhouse National University (BNU) has joined forces with DigitalOcean LLC, a cloud service provider tailored for startups, in a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering underrepresented entrepreneurs in Pakistan.
This philanthropic collaboration, focused on inclusive entrepreneurship, seeks to create equal opportunities, with a particular emphasis on supporting women entrepreneurs across the country.
The endeavor, designed to foster inclusive entrepreneurship, began with a rigorous selection process, including a nationwide call for funding proposals, which garnered an overwhelming response of 11 submissions. Following thorough evaluation, two non-profit and social enterprises, Behbud and Weecommerce, were selected as recipients of this initiative, aimed at advancing inclusive entrepreneurship in affected regions.
Behbud aims to empower women nationwide by providing access to health, education, income generation, and vocational training, irrespective of social or racial backgrounds.
Meanwhile, Weecommerce has already launched over 40 websites for women-led businesses and remains committed to supporting women entrepreneurs in realizing their full potential.
Both partners are dedicated to expanding learning opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs. Sabeen Khan, Program Lead at Weecommerce, expressed excitement about broadening the impact on women entrepreneurs with the support of Digital Ocean & BNU. Bushra Prevaiz Kausar, Honorary Senior Vice President of Behbud Association, Karachi, emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative in empowering women artisans and creating positive ripple effects in their families and communities.
Over the next two years (2024-2025), DigitalOcean and BNU will invest significantly to fuel the growth and success of entrepreneurs across Pakistan. Selected candidates will receive cash grants, free infrastructure credits, educational resources, mentorship, marketing support, and assistance in impact measurement.
Dr. Moeed Yusuf, Vice Chancellor of BNU, highlighted the university’s commitment to empowering marginalized sectors of society, particularly women. Zaeem Yaqoob Khan, Executive Director of BNU, emphasized the institution’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and enhancing the entrepreneurial landscape in Pakistan through strategic partnerships like this one.
