Pakistan’s startup ecosystem is taking a significant step forward in the realm of women’s health and technology with the launch of the country’s first Femtech Innovation Hub. The initiative, spearheaded by the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) in collaboration with the LUMS Centre for Entrepreneurship (LCE) and backed by funding from the Gates Foundation, aims to empower startups focused on developing solutions for women’s health, particularly in underserved communities.

The launch ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 27, 2025, at the LUMS Centre for Entrepreneurship, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This landmark event marks the beginning of a much-needed platform that will provide mentorship, expert-led workshops, and stakeholder engagement opportunities for startups working at the intersection of health and technology.

Femtech—short for female technology—has gained global recognition as an industry dedicated to addressing health challenges unique to women, spanning areas such as reproductive health, maternal care, menstrual health, and broader healthcare access. Despite its potential, femtech remains an emerging field in Pakistan with limited institutional support and funding opportunities. The Femtech Innovation Hub seeks to bridge this gap by fostering innovation, offering expert guidance, and providing entrepreneurs with the tools they need to scale their impact-driven solutions.

With Pakistan facing substantial disparities in women’s healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and marginalized areas, the launch of this initiative is both timely and critical. The program will not only encourage technological innovation but also create a strong network of entrepreneurs, investors, and industry professionals working toward a common goal—enhancing women’s health outcomes through sustainable business solutions.

The Femtech Innovation Hub will play a vital role in enabling startups to refine their business models, gain access to potential investors, and collaborate with healthcare stakeholders. By creating a dedicated ecosystem for femtech solutions, the initiative is expected to drive awareness and investment in a sector that has traditionally been overlooked in Pakistan’s broader startup landscape.

Pakistan’s startup scene has witnessed rapid growth in recent years, with increased interest in sectors such as fintech, edtech, and agritech. However, femtech remains an untapped opportunity that holds significant potential, especially in a country where women make up nearly half the population yet often struggle with access to quality healthcare services. The introduction of this hub reflects a growing recognition of the need to support women-focused innovations and create targeted solutions that address critical health challenges.

The launch event is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and healthcare experts, to discuss the future of femtech in Pakistan. Attendees will gain insights into the hub’s objectives, mentorship programs, and how startups can get involved in this groundbreaking initiative.

As Pakistan continues to foster an innovation-driven economy, the establishment of the Femtech Innovation Hub serves as a major milestone in recognizing and supporting women-centered technological advancements. Entrepreneurs and industry professionals keen on shaping the future of femtech in Pakistan are encouraged to participate in the launch and become part of this transformative journey.
