Civic Tech Innovation Challenge Opens for Asia-Pacific Youth to Transform Governance

Young innovators across the Asia-Pacific region are being invited to participate in the newly launched Regional Civic Tech Innovation Challenge on Governance, an opportunity designed to promote youth-led solutions that advance civic engagement and improve the quality of governance through technology. The challenge focuses on encouraging digital innovation that strengthens transparency, participation, and accountability in public systems.

The initiative is open to youth developing civic tech tools that range from mobile apps and online platforms to more advanced applications such as chatbots, AI for public services, digital civic forums, crowdsourced infrastructure monitoring tools, and open data dashboards. These technologies aim to bridge the gap between governments and citizens by making governance more inclusive, efficient, and transparent. By leveraging innovation for civic benefit, the challenge seeks to empower a new generation of changemakers dedicated to rethinking how public systems can better serve communities.

Participants will benefit from a comprehensive support framework including access to online training and mentorship by regional experts who bring deep knowledge in civic tech, digital governance, and public sector transformation. In addition to capacity-building, the challenge will also provide regional exposure to youth innovators, enabling them to connect with a broader community of peers and stakeholders committed to driving civic progress through technology. Selected participants will also receive grant funding to scale their proposed solutions and bring them closer to real-world implementation.

The Regional Civic Tech Innovation Challenge on Governance is more than a competition—it is an ecosystem-enabling effort to identify and uplift digital tools that can deliver long-term impact. It reflects a growing movement within the Asia-Pacific to equip youth with the resources and support needed to address critical governance issues in their communities. The challenge highlights the importance of digital platforms as a means of civic participation, enabling citizens to not just interact with their governments but to shape the way governance is carried out.

Applications are open until June 30, 2025, and eligible youth innovators are encouraged to apply through the official portal at https://forms.office.com/e/mUpZcnAh38. The initiative encourages entries from across the Asia-Pacific region and particularly welcomes ideas that are scalable, locally grounded, and capable of being replicated across borders. The program supports a vision of governance that is people-centered, digitally enabled, and inclusive of diverse voices.

By mobilizing technology for civic purposes, this challenge aims to foster a new wave of governance innovation that is not only efficient and transparent but also deeply participatory. It presents a timely opportunity for young technologists and entrepreneurs to contribute to public sector transformation with creativity, purpose, and digital skill.
