HEC-NAHE Delegation Visits NSTP to Explore Innovation Ecosystem

Published on

A twenty five member delegation comprising Vice Chancellors, Pro-Vice Chancellors, and senior officials from the Higher Education Commission’s National Academy of Higher Education visited National University of Sciences and Technology on the eighteenth of August, twenty twenty six, with a dedicated portion of the visit focused specifically on National Science and Technology Park. The visit brought together senior leadership from across Pakistan’s higher education sector for a firsthand look at how NSTP structures its support for startups and research linked ventures.

Director of National Science and Technology Park Engineer Amer Sheikh welcomed the delegation and provided a detailed briefing on NSTP’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, outlining the role the technology park plays in enabling startups, strengthening linkages between industry and academia, and advancing technology driven innovation more broadly across Pakistan. The briefing gave the visiting officials a clearer picture of how a university affiliated technology park operates in practice, potentially offering insights relevant to their own institutions.

The scale of the delegation, drawing vice chancellors and pro-vice chancellors from multiple universities alongside senior HEC-NAHE officials, points to a coordinated effort to expose senior academic leadership to NSTP’s operating model as a potential reference point for strengthening entrepreneurship and innovation infrastructure at other universities across the country. Given that many Pakistani universities continue to work toward building out their own research commercialisation and incubation capabilities, direct exposure to an established model such as NSTP offers visiting leadership a practical case study to draw from.

NSTP has continued to position itself as a bridge between academic research conducted at NUST and its practical commercial application, supporting startups that typically arrive with a prototype, minimum viable product, or a technically and commercially scalable solution. The park’s focus on strengthening industry academia linkages reflects a broader challenge facing many universities in Pakistan, where research output does not always translate efficiently into commercially viable ventures without dedicated infrastructure and support to bridge that gap.

The visit adds to a growing pattern of engagement between NSTP and senior stakeholders across Pakistan’s higher education and government sectors, with such visits often serving as an opportunity to showcase the technology park’s model while also building relationships that could lead to future collaboration between NUST and other academic institutions represented within the HEC-NAHE delegation. Sheikh’s direct involvement in briefing the group reflects NSTP’s continued effort to position itself as a reference point for entrepreneurship and innovation infrastructure within Pakistan’s broader higher education landscape.
