Pakistani government, led by Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr. Umar Saif, has announced a significant initiative to establish 5,000 E-Working Centers across the country. These centers will provide essential resources and support to freelancers, aiming to boost Pakistan’s freelance economy and generate employment opportunities.
The government intends to offer interest-free loans to facilitate the establishment of these E-Working Centers. This move is expected to empower freelancers and enable them to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
Dr. Saif also highlighted the government’s focus on attracting foreign investment to the Pakistani startup ecosystem. He announced plans to visit Saudi Arabia to discuss potential collaborations and investment opportunities in the IT sector.
The Minister emphasized the need to retain foreign currency within the IT industry and encourage the repatriation of overseas IT accounts. By doing so, Pakistan can strengthen its foreign exchange reserves and boost its IT exports.
Dr. Saif called for a redefinition of the Pakistan Software Export Board’s (PSEB) role, urging it to actively support IT companies in securing international clients. The PSEB is also tasked with training 200,000 IT professionals to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the industry.
This initiative demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to leveraging its IT talent and fostering a thriving digital economy. By providing the necessary infrastructure and support, the government aims to position Pakistan as a global hub for IT services and digital innovation.
