SMEDA and WCCI AJK Join Hands to Support Women-Led Businesses in Azad Jammu and Kashmir

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Azad Jammu and Kashmir (WCCI AJK) have pledged to collaborate on initiatives aimed at strengthening women-led businesses across the region. The two organizations are preparing to develop a joint action plan designed to support women entrepreneurs through targeted programs that focus on training, business development, improved market access, and export opportunities.

The collaboration reflects growing efforts to expand opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where small and medium-sized enterprises play an important role in local economic development. Through the partnership, both organizations intend to provide practical support to women-led enterprises, helping them build sustainable businesses and increase their participation in regional and international markets.

The joint action plan being developed by SMEDA and WCCI AJK is expected to address multiple areas critical to business growth. These include capacity-building initiatives that equip women entrepreneurs with skills related to enterprise management, financial planning, and digital tools. Training sessions and mentorship opportunities are expected to help business owners strengthen their operational capabilities while enabling them to adapt to evolving market demands.

Business development support will also form a core part of the collaboration. Many women-led enterprises in Azad Jammu and Kashmir operate at a small or home-based scale and often face challenges related to scaling operations, accessing professional networks, and connecting with buyers beyond local markets. By working together, SMEDA and WCCI AJK aim to facilitate structured programs that help entrepreneurs expand their businesses and identify new commercial opportunities.

Market linkages are another important element of the partnership. Women entrepreneurs frequently encounter barriers when attempting to connect with larger supply chains, distributors, or export markets. The organizations plan to address these challenges by creating pathways that link women-led businesses with potential partners, buyers, and industry stakeholders. These efforts are expected to improve visibility for locally produced goods and services while strengthening the commercial ecosystem for women entrepreneurs.

Export readiness is also part of the initiative, with both organizations exploring ways to help women-led enterprises understand international market requirements, quality standards, and export procedures. Providing access to export-focused training and guidance can enable entrepreneurs to position their products competitively in regional and global markets. Such initiatives are considered essential for increasing the economic contribution of women-led enterprises and expanding their commercial reach.

The collaboration was highlighted by SMEDA Chief Executive Officer Nadia Jahangir Seth and Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry AJK President Sidra Azad, who described the partnership as an important step toward empowering women-led enterprises in the region. Their shared commitment reflects the broader objective of enabling women entrepreneurs to participate more actively in business development and economic growth.

SMEDA has long been involved in initiatives aimed at supporting small and medium enterprises across Pakistan by providing advisory services, training programs, and policy recommendations that encourage entrepreneurship. Working with regional chambers of commerce allows the organization to better understand the specific challenges faced by business communities and develop targeted solutions that address local needs.

Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry AJK plays a significant role in representing and supporting women entrepreneurs in the region. Through advocacy, networking opportunities, and business development programs, the chamber works to strengthen the presence of women in commercial activities while encouraging more women to pursue entrepreneurship as a viable career path.

The planned collaboration between SMEDA and WCCI AJK highlights ongoing efforts within Pakistan’s business ecosystem to support inclusive economic development. By focusing on skill development, market access, and export readiness, the initiative aims to create stronger foundations for women-led enterprises operating in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
