TRE Cycle Signs MoU with SSWMB to Promote Sustainability and Women-Led Innovation

Published on

TRE Cycle marked a major step forward in its mission toward sustainability and women-led innovation by hosting a significant MoU signing ceremony with Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) under a public-private partnership. Held at National Incubation Center (NIC) Karachi, the event brought together a wide network of stakeholders supporting environmental innovation and female entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

This collaboration represents a shared vision between the public and private sectors to improve urban waste management, enhance recycling systems, and drive environmentally conscious practices across Sindh. At the core of this partnership is TRE Cycle’s focus on waste reduction, carbon footprint minimization, and transforming waste into functional and creative outputs such as upcycled materials and environmental art. The MoU was formally signed in the presence of SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani, who played a pivotal role in enabling this partnership.

NIC Karachi Director Syed Azfar Hussain provided the platform for the engagement, reinforcing NIC’s ongoing commitment to supporting impact-driven ventures. Abdul Haq, CEO of Concern Waste Sindh & Recycling, has been a long-standing collaborator in TRE Cycle’s journey and was acknowledged for his continued support in promoting sustainability across urban waste ecosystems.

The event attracted participation from individuals across diverse sectors including education, industry, civil society, and municipal authorities. The presence of representatives from Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Sindh Industrial Trading Estate, and the Aziz Tabba Foundation CSR Division of YBG illustrated cross-sector commitment to climate action and responsible waste practices. Additional acknowledgment was given to municipal commissioners, college directors, and CSR leaders from organizations such as PACE College, Telemart, NFEH (National Forum for Environment and Health), and North City School of Art for their backing of green efforts and youth education in environmental awareness.

Attendees were unanimous in recognizing the role of inclusive development and the need for greater support to women entrepreneurs working on climate-related ventures. The initiative was especially praised for contributing to Pakistan’s circular economy goals and encouraging women to take lead roles in sustainable innovation. Many highlighted that this event signaled how government institutions are now more actively supporting women-led enterprises by enabling practical collaborations and access to operational ecosystems.

The event also celebrated individual champions and contributors who have long supported TRE Cycle’s mission, including Abdul Rauf Essa, Mohammed Naeem Qureshi, Adeel Durvesh, Rafiq Vayani, Andeel Ali, Majid Hussain, Amna Maqdi, Tooba Khan, and others. The collective presence reflected strong endorsement for clean energy innovation and inclusive leadership.

TRE Cycle continues to be backed by key accelerators and startup networks such as LMKT, Ignite – National Technology Fund, Orbit Startups, Katalyst Labs, INNOVentures Global Private Limited, and XSEED, all of which are playing a crucial role in nurturing climate-forward ventures in Pakistan. This public-private partnership is set to offer a renewed push to structured recycling programs and broaden the footprint of eco-conscious startups working in collaboration with municipal institutions.
