National Science and Technology Park Director Engineer Amer Sheikh welcomed David Morrison, Political Officer at the United States Embassy in Pakistan, for a visit to NSTP that built on an established and active collaborative relationship between the two institutions and explored pathways for deepening that relationship through new joint initiatives. The visit provided Morrison with a direct view of NSTP’s innovation ecosystem, research and development infrastructure, and the range of innovation-driven programmes and initiatives that the park has developed in partnership with international and domestic stakeholders over the course of its engagement with the US Embassy.
The foundation for this visit is a collaboration that has already produced concrete outcomes for Pakistan’s entrepreneurship community. The Rising Star Startup Competition, a nationwide programme developed through NSTP’s engagement with the United States Embassy, was designed specifically to empower women and minority entrepreneurs by providing them with the resources, mentorship, and opportunities needed to build and grow their ventures. In a startup ecosystem where women founders and entrepreneurs from minority communities have historically had less access to the structured support and visibility that accelerate venture development, a programme of this kind carries both social and economic significance, expanding the pool of founders who can access the national innovation infrastructure that NSTP represents. NSTP has also partnered with the Pakistan United States Alumni Network to host knowledge-sharing training sessions on emerging technologies, creating another channel through which the bilateral relationship translates into skill development and professional network building for Pakistani technology professionals.
The visit’s agenda centred on showcasing what NSTP has built in terms of physical infrastructure, incubation programmes, and ecosystem development, giving the US Embassy a current and grounded picture of the park’s capabilities and the ventures it is supporting.
