VoltShare Joins Plug and Play China, Becoming First Pakistani Startup in Global EV Accelerator Track

Published on

VoltShare has made history by becoming the first Pakistani startup to be selected for Plug and Play China’s Cross-Border Program, marking a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s tech ecosystem. The inclusion places VoltShare within one of the most competitive electric vehicle (EV) and clean mobility ecosystems in the world, underscoring the startup’s international relevance in sustainable transport and infrastructure.

Plug and Play China is part of the world’s largest startup accelerator network and supports international startups in scaling across Asia through localization, partnerships, and corporate engagement. By joining this program, VoltShare will gain access to Chinese and Asia-Pacific markets, benefiting from direct connections with leading corporates, investors, and industry leaders in mobility, energy, and sustainability.

This milestone is also a reflection of Pakistan’s national innovation framework, led by MoITT and Ignite. Under this mandate, NIC Lahore has emerged as a key player in equipping local startups with the mentorship, infrastructure, and global exposure needed to compete internationally. VoltShare, currently incubated at NIC Lahore, is a testament to the impact of public sector-backed incubation in enabling global-ready ventures.

“This opportunity with Plug and Play China is a moment of pride not just for VoltShare, but for the institutions that have enabled our journey,” said Umair Atta, Co-Founder and CEO of VoltShare. “From day one, MoITT, Ignite, and NIC Lahore have provided the ecosystem, the exposure, and the confidence to think global.”

Through the program, VoltShare will be able to enter Asia’s largest EV and mobility market with guided support. The startup will engage directly with Chinese corporates and investors, explore cross-border pilots and partnerships, and build pathways into broader APAC markets, including Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

What makes the achievement particularly meaningful is that VoltShare’s core research and development, product design, and technology stack have been built entirely in Pakistan. Its international expansion is being driven by local engineers, product developers, and climate innovators, showcasing the country’s growing capacity to build world-class technology solutions.

A spokesperson from NIC Lahore emphasized the broader impact of the milestone: “VoltShare’s global traction is exactly the kind of success story envisioned when MoITT and Ignite launched the National Incubation Centers. This isn’t just startup success, this is policy success. It proves that with the right public-sector support, Pakistani startups can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best.”

By entering Plug and Play China’s network, VoltShare is not only expanding its footprint but also representing Pakistan as a serious contender in the global clean mobility space. With strategic partnerships and expansion opportunities on the horizon, the startup is set to play a defining role in how emerging market companies can scale beyond borders while keeping their innovation rooted at home.
