Planet and Farmdar Partner to Advance AI-Driven Agricultural Insights Worldwide

Published on

Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), a leading provider of near-daily satellite imagery and geospatial intelligence, has entered into a new partnership with Farmdar, a global agricultural technology company. The six-figure contract grants Farmdar enhanced access to Planet’s extensive archive of PlanetScope data, including Planet Basemaps, to power its crop insights platform. This collaboration aims to deliver advanced agricultural intelligence by integrating Planet’s unparalleled Earth observation capabilities with Farmdar’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence models.

For Farmdar, the agreement represents an opportunity to significantly strengthen its ability to provide precision insights for agricultural enterprises around the world. Planet’s imagery will enable more accurate crop detection, clear boundary identification, and detailed mapping of arable land. Combined with Farmdar’s AI-driven analytical models, the data will allow agribusinesses to make informed decisions that enhance efficiency, boost yields, and promote sustainability.

Since 2022, Farmdar has relied on Planet’s satellite data to develop high-precision crop analysis tools. With this new contract, the company gains deeper access to data streams that are especially valuable for sugar millers and other sectors that demand detailed, timely insights. By combining daily monitoring with advanced AI, Farmdar aims to bring greater reliability and accuracy to clients worldwide.

Ashley Johnson, President and CFO of Planet, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “We’ve seen the power of AI solutions and satellite data together to unlock insights about our changing world. Farmdar’s cutting-edge AI for agricultural optimization, powered by PlanetScope data, will provide the essential, frequent insights needed to drive more sustainable and productive farming practices globally.”

Farmdar’s Chief Technology Officer, David Pridmore, shared a similar perspective on the importance of the deal. “Partnering directly with Planet is a significant step forward for Farmdar and our commitment to delivering best-in-class agricultural intelligence. Planet’s unparalleled near-daily PlanetScope data provides the foundational, high-quality inputs our AI models require for delivering unparalleled accuracy, particularly for complex crops like sugarcane. This direct relationship will empower our global clients with the timely, precise information they need to optimize operations and make more informed decisions,” he said.

The partnership reflects the growing demand for AI-driven agricultural solutions that can address pressing challenges such as food security and resource management. With agriculture under increasing pressure from climate change, supply chain disruptions, and population growth, reliable and frequent access to satellite imagery is becoming essential. Planet and Farmdar’s collaboration provides agribusinesses with the tools to adapt to these challenges, ensuring more efficient use of land and resources.

Planet continues to build its reputation as a leader in Earth observation, with a fleet of satellites designed to capture daily images of the entire planet. Since its founding in 2010 by former NASA scientists, the company has provided data and insights to industries ranging from agriculture and forestry to finance, intelligence, and education. Its mission remains focused on making change visible and actionable.

Farmdar, headquartered in Singapore, uses space technology and AI to deliver actionable crop insights at scale. Serving leading agribusiness clients globally, the company helps enterprises increase productivity, optimize procurement and supply chains, and reduce their climate impact. With its enhanced access to Planet’s data, Farmdar is positioned to play an even greater role in reshaping agricultural practices worldwide.

The collaboration between Planet and Farmdar underscores how partnerships between space-tech providers and agricultural AI innovators can transform traditional farming. As demand for timely intelligence grows, such alliances are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring food security and sustainability on a global scale
