IBA Karachi’s SDGs Innovative Financing Challenge: A Catalyst for Sustainable SMEs

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Innovative Financing Challenge,hosted by IBA Karachi’s Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) in partnership with UNDP Pakistan and JS Bank,concluded with resounding success on June 27, 2024. The event marked a significant milestone in fostering sustainable and climate-resilient businesses in Pakistan.

A Showcase of Innovation and Impact:

Aligning with the United Nations MSMEs Day, the challenge attracted over 200 applications from SMEs addressing pressing social and environmental issues. Through rigorous evaluation and capacity-building workshops, 30 promising projects were shortlisted. The top 10 finalists presented their innovative solutions at the grand finale.

The four winning startups, each receiving a grant of 10 million PKR from UNDP Pakistan and subsequent loans from JS Bank, demonstrated exceptional potential in driving sustainable change:

  • Vitality Vehicles (Vlektra): Revolutionizing transportation with electric motorcycles to reduce emissions.
  • Concept Loop: Turning plastic waste into valuable building materials.
  • Knowledge Platform: Empowering young minds with educational games focused on environmental literacy.
  • Davaam Life: Promoting a sustainable lifestyle through refillable products.

The SDGs Innovative Financing Challenge showcased the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors.The partnership between IBA CED, UNDP Pakistan, and JS Bank provided essential support to these innovative startups,enabling them to scale their impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

The success of this challenge is a testament to the growing entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to sustainable development in Pakistan.
