The National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative (NGIRI) held its annual Prize Distribution Ceremony today, recognizing the achievements of undergraduate students in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) fields.

Established in 2012, NGIRI has become a cornerstone for grassroots-level research and development (R&D). It provides financial support to exceptional Final Year Projects (FYPs) from public and private universities, fostering a culture of creativity and technical advancement among Pakistan’s youth.

The program boasts a significant impact, having funded a remarkable 7,115 FYPs with disbursements exceeding Rs. 384 million to date. This initiative equips young minds with the resources to explore innovative solutions, propelling Pakistan towards a future driven by technology.

The ceremony welcomed Capt. (Retd.) Muhammad Mahmood, Secretary IT & Telecom, as the chief guest. He commended the students’ efforts and highlighted the critical role of innovation in national progress.

“NGIRI plays a vital role in unlocking the creative potential of our young minds,” stated Captain Mahmood. “Supporting these groundbreaking projects not only fosters R&D but also paves the way for a technologically empowered Pakistan. The remarkable achievements showcased today are a testament to our nation’s bright future.”

Mr. Adeel Aijaz Shaikh, CEO of Ignite, also addressed the event, emphasizing NGIRI’s impact on the ICT sector. “NGIRI is a cornerstone for grassroots innovation,” he said. “By backing these promising projects, we are investing in the future leaders of our ICT industry. Today’s success stories reflect the dedication of our students, academic institutions, and industry partners.”

The ceremony culminated in the distribution of prizes to the top-performing FYPs, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the advancement of ICT. The event served as a valuable platform to showcase student-developed solutions, further solidifying the importance of nurturing a robust R&D culture at the grassroots level.
