A senior delegation from Mitsubishi Corporation for Asia and Oceania has visited the National Science and Technology Park at the National University of Sciences and Technology to explore Pakistan’s fast changing innovation and entrepreneurship landscape. The group was led by Tomoyuki Nishida, deputy CRO for Asia and Oceania, and its visit reflects growing outside interest in the technology work taking place on the university’s campus. For a global trading and investment group with operations across many industries, a visit of this kind offers a direct look at the research, startups, and facilities that could shape future business ties with Pakistan.
Dr. Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation and Commercialization at the university, and Amer Sheikh, Director of the park, received the delegation and briefed it on the university’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The briefing explained how the university and the park work together to move ideas from research toward products and companies, a model that links academic study, laboratory work, and early stage business. Presenting the structure to senior visitors from a major international company allowed the hosts to show not only individual projects but also the system that supports them.
During the visit, the delegation toured key parts of the park’s ecosystem, including HATO and Rapidev, along with advanced research and development facilities at the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences and the National Center of Artificial Intelligence. The visitors gained insight into ongoing research, emerging technologies, and high potential ventures, and they saw how the park’s collaborative infrastructure enables rapid product development, commercialization, and engagement with industry. Seeing laboratories, startups, and shared facilities in a single campus helps outside organizations judge where Pakistani technology is strongest and where opportunities for joint work might lie.
The park said it looks forward to building on the discussions held during the visit and exploring opportunities for future collaboration and innovation. The announcement did not mention any agreements, investments, or specific projects that came out of the meeting, so the practical results will depend on follow up talks in the coming months. Even so, the visit adds to a series of delegations that the park has hosted from universities, industry groups, and international organizations as it presents itself as a center of innovation in Pakistan. For the startups and researchers who met the Mitsubishi Corporation team, the visit offered a chance to present their work to a global company and to begin conversations that could lead to wider markets and stronger industry links.
