Careem, a key player in the ride-hailing industry, is making strategic moves to reclaim its lost market share by introducing a new feature known as “flexi rides.” This innovative addition allows users to regain control over their commuting expenses by setting personalized fares for rides, fostering a more flexible pricing structure.

To utilize this feature, users simply tap on the “Car” icon on the app’s home screen, select their pickup point and destination, and then compare prices across various ride options before making a choice. The flexi option is now applicable to Go, Go Mini, and Bike rides, providing users with the ability to compare prices with non-flexi ride alternatives.

While the concept of customizable fares is not entirely novel to the ride-hailing industry, Careem’s implementation aims to empower commuters and enhance their overall experience. This move follows in the footsteps of other successful models, such as those adopted by inDrive and Bykea, which have gained popularity for giving users the freedom to determine their fare rates, thereby creating a competitive edge in the market.

Careem’s decision to embrace the flexi rides model is a proactive response to evolving consumer preferences and the competitive landscape. By doing so, the company is positioning itself to directly challenge inDrive, a platform that has gained user favor for its customer-centric approach. This strategic initiative underscores Careem’s commitment to adapting to the changing dynamics of the ride-hailing industry and ensuring it remains a strong contender in the market.
