NIC Karachi Session to Cover IP Protection for Startup Founders

Published on

NIC Karachi is set to hold a curriculum session on intellectual property protection, aimed at helping founders understand how to secure their innovations before bringing them to market. The session will be led by Shaikh Rashid Alam, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Brands Foundation, who brings decades of experience in intellectual property management, brand empowerment, and policy advocacy to the discussion.

The session is designed to walk founders through the fundamentals of intellectual property, covering patents, trademarks, copyrights, and broader brand protection mechanisms available to startups. Given Alam’s background in policy advocacy alongside direct IP management experience, the session is expected to combine practical guidance with a wider perspective on how intellectual property fits into a startup’s long term business strategy, rather than treating it purely as a legal formality.

Organizers said the session will focus on why protecting innovation is a critical step for founders building sustainable and investment ready startups, with particular attention to how IP protection can strengthen a company’s overall business value. Participants are expected to leave with practical strategies for safeguarding their innovations and using intellectual property protection as a way to create a competitive advantage within their respective markets, an aspect that is often overlooked by early stage founders focused primarily on product development.

The session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, at 12 in the afternoon at NIC Karachi, with registration open for those interested in attending. Interested participants can register through the link at https://lnkd.in/dX2bGgsy. The session is being supported by Tech Destination Pakistan, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Ignite, the National Technology Fund, along with LMKT, LuckyOne Mall, and Orbit Ventures.

The session forms part of NIC Karachi’s ongoing curriculum activities for its incubated cohorts, reflecting a broader emphasis within Pakistan’s incubation ecosystem on ensuring founders address legal and structural aspects of building a company alongside product and market development. As NIC Karachi continues its current cohort cycle, sessions covering intellectual property and related legal fundamentals are increasingly being positioned as a core part of preparing startups for future investment and scaling opportunities.
